Overview
Portable crib rooms are containerised shift-worker break rooms built for mining camps, construction sites, and remote industrial projects. SCS Global manufactures them factory-direct from our Yixing, Jiangsu facility in 20ft and 40ft sizes, with kitchenette, fixed tables and benches, split-system air conditioning, LED lighting, and hardwired smoke alarms. Region D cyclonic and accessible variants are available. Every unit ships into our full mining camp accommodation range and meets the Model WHS Workplace Amenities Code of Practice, NCC 2022, AS/NZS 3000, and AS/NZS 3500 on AU and NZ deployments. The 20ft seats eight to ten workers per sitting. The 40ft seats sixteen to twenty. Both come off the same factory line.
Specifications
Units ship in 20ft and 40ft ISO 668 configurations. Both come with insulated panel walls, vinyl flooring, sliding security windows, stainless kitchenette with sink, hot and cold water, microwave and fridge GPOs, split-system reverse-cycle A/C, LED lighting, hardwired smoke alarms, and fixed tables and benches.

Deployment
Crib rooms deploy across the full operational profile: single-shift exploration crews, two-up FIFO rotations, shutdown teams running staggered breaks at a process plant, and infrastructure-project camps that need a self-contained dining facility on the laydown. Defence forward bases, post-cyclone response camps, and post-fire recovery deployments use the same unit against a shorter occupancy horizon. Where a single sitting won't cover the workforce, linked-multi-unit configurations scale capacity.
Fitout
The kitchenette includes stainless bench, sink with hot and cold water, microwave and fridge GPOs, with an upgrade path to a Zip-style boiler and custom cabinetry. Furniture defaults to fixed tables and benches on 20ft with expanded table groups on 40ft. Split-system reverse-cycle A/C is standard. Mechanical ventilation uses exhaust fans and whirlybird roof vents under AS 1668.2. Mine-spec fitouts add heavier-duty doors, security mesh, and slip-resistant vinyl. Internal partitions can split the box into a crib room plus first-aid or storage.
Compliance
The Model WHS Regulations and the Workplace Amenities and Work Environment Code of Practice set the underlying PCBU duty: every employer must provide dining facilities, drinking water, hand-washing, weather protection, and seating for workers on site. Every unit is built to NCC 2022, AS/NZS 3000 electrical, AS/NZS 3500 plumbing, AS 1668.2 ventilation, and AS/NZS 1170.2 Region D cyclonic where specified. A Certificate of Compliance covering electrical, plumbing, and amenity sign-off is issued with every unit at delivery.

Configuration Options
Configurations range from the 20ft standard single-bay to linked-multi-unit layouts and Region D cyclone-rated builds.
One bay, ~11 m2, up to ten seated. Full kitchenette, fixed tables and benches, AC, LED lighting, smoke alarms.
Double the floor area (~22 m2), sixteen to twenty seated. Expanded table groups.
Multiple 20ft units linked side-by-side to scale capacity. Familiar to riggers and transport crews.

Applications
Portable crib rooms and site lunch rooms deploy wherever shift workers need a self-contained dining and break facility.
FIFO rotation breaks, shutdown crew rest, and 12-hour-shift break cycles on iron-ore, copper, gold, and coal sites.
Break rooms for drilling and processing sites. Staggered-break configurations for continuous operations.
Long-duration build camps and shutdown projects. Linked-multi-unit layouts for larger workforces.
Forward operating bases, post-cyclone response camps, and post-fire recovery deployments.

camp kitchensFAQ
Three questions procurement and operations ask most often about portable crib rooms.
A crib room is the Australian mining and construction term for a portable break room or site lunch room used by shift workers. It is a containerised, self-contained unit fitted with a kitchenette, fixed tables and benches, air conditioning, and LED lighting. Where workers reheat catered meals rather than prepare them, the build sits with the crib room; on-site food preparation moves to the camp kitchen spec.
A 20ft seats eight to ten workers per sitting, around 11 m2 of floor area. A 40ft seats sixteen to twenty across roughly 22 m2. Match the unit count to total workforce, shift pattern, and whether the camp uses a single sitting or staggered breaks.
The standard 20ft kitchenette is a stainless steel bench with sink (hot and cold water), microwave and fridge pre-wired GPOs, LED-lit splashback, and overhead storage. Upgrade options include a Zip-style boiler, additional GPOs, custom cabinetry, and an extended bench for 40ft layouts.
