Overview

Factory-built crew accommodation for offshore installations

SCS Global manufactures offshore living quarters for platforms, rigs, and marine vessels. These factory-built modules house crew during drilling campaigns, production operations, shutdowns, and hook-up commissioning. Available in 20ft, 32ft, and 33ft configurations housing 1 to 8 personnel per module, with multi-module complexes scaling to 50+ crew. Every unit ships from our Jiangsu factory with DNV offshore marine equipment certification Offshore accommodation differs fundamentally from onshore workforce housing: where mining camp accommodation deploys on prepared ground with road access, offshore modules must withstand crane lifting loads, vessel motion, salt spray corrosion, and meet IMO fire-safety requirements for enclosed marine environments. Each module includes crew cabins with integrated wet units, individual climate control per bedroom, A60 fire-rated bulkheads, and fire and gas detection systems.

Specifications

Accommodation Module Specifications

SCS builds living quarters offshore at our Jiangsu manufacturing facility using Q345/S355 structural steel with SA 2.5 blast preparation and a 3-coat marine paint system to 250 microns DFT per ISO 12944 C5-M marine-grade specification. Weld inspection follows DNV 2.7-1 requirements: magnetic particle, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, and radiographic inspection on critical structural joints.

Rig Accommodation

Rig Accommodation Modules

Rig accommodation modules are crane-lifted to platform decks for crew housing during drilling campaigns, shutdowns, and hook-up commissioning. Deployment covers fixed platforms, semi-submersibles, jackups, and FPSOs across the Middle East, South East Asia, Australasia, and West Africa. During shutdowns, temporary housing adds bed capacity without permanent structural change, connecting to existing power, water, and HVAC through standardised hook-up points. NORSOK C-001 sets the living-quarters design standard: cabin sizing, noise limits (45 dB(A) day, 40 dB(A) night), ventilation rates, and sanitary ratios.

Configurations

Habitation Module Configurations

Offshore accommodation modules come in 20ft ISO, 32ft, and 33ft variants housing 1 to 8 crew, with multi-module complexes scaling past 50 personnel. Each can be configured as sleeping cabins, offices, mess rooms, galleys, ablution blocks, laundries, recreation rooms, or medical stations, from single-berth executive cabins through 8-person bunk layouts. Modules stack up to 4 floors via structural linking kits, with gangway and stairway containers for inter-module access. Plug-and-play power, water, and HVAC connections enable rapid commissioning on arrival.

Cabin Fit-Out

Offshore Cabin Fit-Out Options

Each offshore cabin includes bunk beds with FR mattresses, individual climate control, A60 fire-rated bulkheads, an integrated wet unit, and full-height storage, with fit-out following IMO FTP Code MSC.307(88) fire-test requirements. A standard cabin carries 2 bunk sets with blackout curtains, 3 lockers, a desk, LED lighting, power and data outlets, and a 32-inch TV. The wet unit holds a shower, toilet, basin, and mirrored cabinet under Category II lighting per NORSOK C-002. Individual AC covers a -20°C to +50°C range, with smoke detectors, sprinklers, dampers, and A60 escape hatches.

Compliance

Accommodation Module Specifications & Certification

Offshore accommodation modules require DNV 2.7-1 or 2.7-3 certification, A60 fire rating per the IMO FTP Code, and compliance with NORSOK C-001 living-quarters design. SCS modules undergo full NDT on all critical welds (MPI, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, radiographic), with coating thickness verified by DFT against ISO 12944 C5-M. Load testing follows DNV 2.7-1 proof load specifications, and certified pad-eyes, slings, and shackles ship with every crane-liftable unit. DNV 2.7-2 covers deck cargo transport for multi-module complexes, and 2.7-3 covers non-lifting portable units. Third-party certification is available through DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, or Bureau Veritas.

Configuration Options

Occupancy and Complex Configurations

Modules combine into complete crew camps on platform decks. Configuration depends on project crew numbers, platform deck space, and operational duration.

Single-Berth Executive Cabins

Single-occupancy cabins for senior crew and supervisors.

2 / 4 / 8-Person Bunk Cabins

Standard 20ft modules accommodate 2 to 4 persons; 32ft and 33ft house 4 to 8.

Mess, Galley & Recreation

Configured modules for messing, catering, recreation, and medical stations.

Multi-Storey Complexes

Stack up to 4 floors with structural linking kits, gangway containers, and stairway containers.

Plug-and-Play Services

Standardised hook-up points for power, water, and HVAC for rapid commissioning.

Applications

Offshore Accommodation Applications

Rig accommodation modules house crew on fixed platforms, semi-submersibles, jackup rigs, and FPSOs through drilling, production, shutdown, and hook-up campaigns. The same certified modules serve marine construction crews, naval support operations, and remote resource projects where bed capacity must scale without permanent build.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Three questions procurement and engineering ask most often about offshore living quarters.

What Are Offshore Accommodation Modules?

These are self-contained, factory-built living units for oil and gas platforms, drilling rigs, and marine vessels. Each module provides crew cabins, ablution facilities, climate control, and A60 fire-rated divisions certified to DNV 2.7-1 or 2.7-3. Modules range from single 20ft units to multi-storey linked complexes housing 50+ crew.

What Standards Apply to Offshore Accommodation Modules?

DNV 2.7-1 certifies structural integrity for crane lifting. IMO FTP Code mandates A60 fire-rated divisions. NORSOK C-001 governs cabin sizing, noise limits (45 dB(A) day, 40 dB(A) night), ventilation, and sanitary ratios. SOLAS Chapter II-2 covers fire safety. ILO MLC 2006 sets minimum seafarer accommodation standards for vessel-based units.

How Many Crew Can an Accommodation Module House?

A single module houses 1 to 8 crew depending on size and bunk configuration. Standard 20ft modules accommodate 2 to 4 persons. The 32ft and 33ft modules house 4 to 8. Multi-module complexes with stacking up to 4 floors scale to 50+ personnel.
