Overview
An MCC container is a purpose-built steel building on an ISO container base that houses motor control centre switchboards, drives and starters, fitted out before it ever reaches site. Motor control centre buildings from SCS are complete steel enclosures: shell, insulation, cooling, cable reticulation and lighting finished on one production line, then delivered to site as ordinary container freight. They sit within our containerised switchrooms and electrical infrastructure range and are built on the same production platform: welded shells, ISO corner castings and factory fit-out before dispatch.
Specifications
An MCC building is built on a 3 m, 6 m or 12 m ISO container base with double-gasket sealed doors, pressurisation fans and cable management ready for switchboard installation. Cooling is sized to the housed load: ventilators for passive duties, air conditioning with external condensers where drive heat demands it, in N+1 or N+N configurations. Dust exclusion works as a system of gasketed doors, sealed penetrations and positive-pressure fans, rated under IEC 60529, with IP55 and IP56 the category tiers for this enclosure class. Scope of Supply
One boundary shapes every MCC project scope-of-supply. SCS builds the containerised MCC building: the sealed, cooled, cable-ready structure that keeps switchgear running. The MCC switchboard inside it is your switchboard builder's scope, designed and certified by the party that assembles it. EPCs, mining operators and plant engineers package containerised motor control centres this way on remote projects: building from the building manufacturer, boards from the board builder, and each certifying its own work.
VSD Housing
MCC buildings house variable speed drives, reduced-voltage soft starters, PLCs, remote I/O and power monitoring: equipment specified and supplied through your switchboard builder or integrator, governed at component level by IEC 60947-4-1. The building's job is the environment that equipment needs. Heat rejection is sized against drive losses: a drive-dense room sheds more heat than a plain distribution board. Positive pressurisation keeps dust off electronics between filter changes, and cable zoning separates power and control runs on earthed racking.
Compliance
The building fabric is certified for transport under ISO 668, ISO 1496 and the International Convention for Safe Containers. The housed switchboard and the site installation each carry their own compliance pathway, and knowing who certifies what keeps a procurement scope clean. Three parties, three layers. SCS certifies the building it manufactures, on its ISO and CSC transport basis, with Region D cyclonic tie-down engineering the category practice for Australian deployments. The switchboard builder verifies the MCC assembly under IEC 61439-2, the power switchgear and controlgear assembly standard. The installing electrician certifies the fit-out wiring under AS/NZS 3000. Enclosure penetrations keep their IP rating under IEC 60529, and fire-rated door and insulation options are specified per project.
